Today, I turned in my final paper of the semester: a 12-page exegesis on Galatians 3:23-29 and 4:1-7. I love the challenge of a good term paper, but thanks be to God, the semester is coming to an end. The joys of summer are sitting on the horizon. I am look forward to spending quality time with my wife and daughter, which is another great opportunity that comes during the summer time. As all of my required reading falls away, I have new time that I can commit to the books sitting on my shelves. Below is a list of five books I hope to read before my fall semester begins.
Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance
Dr. Keith speaks highly of this book and has been suggesting it to me for several years. This summer I will finally sit down and read it.
Any Lutheran worth his salt will have some Robert Kolb on his bookshelf. Unfortunately, my Kolb collection is collecting dust. It’s about time to dust Confessing the Faith off.
This semester past semester, I was blessed with the ability to do an independent study of readings in C.S. Lewis with Dr. Mueller, the Dean of Christ College at Concordia Irvine. In an attempt to keep up on my Lewis over the summer, I am going to read On Stories, which has been on my to-read list for a long time.
Luther’s 1535 Commentary on Galatians
I just finished a short exegesis on Galatians 3:23-29 and 4:1-7. My research included sections out of Luther’s commentary, but this summer I will read the whole thing.
Homer’s Odyssey in Greek
After only two semesters of Greek, I am going to attempt the hefty feat of reading Homer’s Odyssey. Mind you I took Koine Greek, not Classical Greek, so I will have a lot of vocab to learn.
This is the first serious reading list I have laid out for myself in some time. As the semesters get busier, my free time gets shorter. Feel free to drop a comment below if you would add anything to this list or if you have a Summer reading list of your own.
