My Future Does Not Depend On This Election

By Joel A Hess

Often times we are told during a presidential election that our future depends on who we choose.
My future does not depend on the election

While I pray that God gives us a president we need and not one we deserve

My future does not depend on this election

While I do my civic duty to research, meditate and vote

My future does not depend on this election

While I fear for the future of this country regardless of who is elected

My future does not depend on this election

While I fret over foolish decisions made by elected and unelected men and women

My future does not depend on this election

While I stumble over my own despicable crimes

My future does not depend on this election

While I fear the words my doctor will one day say

My future does not depend on this election

While I worry about my family and how I will pay all my bills

My future does not depend on this election

While a future president may one day outlaw the faith

The Church’s future does not depend on this election

My future depends on Christ

Who died for all

Who rose from the dead

Who is coming again

Who will raise us up never to die again

The earth may shake

The mountains may fall into the sea

The universe may shrink into a minute singularity

My future does not depend on this election
