Watch out for your Children

Whether you like or hate that Trump won the presidential election, it is undeniable that the liberal community went through a freak-out. Twitter and Facebook were ablaze; college campuses crumbled in tears and some real idiots started blocking freeways. Amidst false cries of racism and bigotry, some liberals acknowledged how they failed and revealed the larger plan for changing the world. It starts with Christianity. You see, Christianity possess a real threat to the political left, not because many Christians find themselves on the political right, but because Christians believe in objectivity when it comes to issues such as morality, science, and law. Modern liberalism relies on a false pluralism, which says that there is no true right or wrong, gender doesn’t exist, and random chance is god. As they continue to push this worldview, the major force standing in the way is Christianity. While liberals often attack Christianity, at its face the real plan is more sinister: Go for the children. It will come as no surprise to some that a rally call has been sounded for young liberals to become teachers, move into conservative states, and begin indoctrinating children through the one thing parents often don’t control: education. One young liberal took to Twitter and specifically stated that it was time for liberals to attend schools predominately attended by Christians to take them away from the minds of their parents by preaching LGBTQ equality, teaching them to reject God, starting with evolution, and to make them lovers of all people by destroying their fundamentalist morals.

Christian parents: Be on guard. An epistemological war is here and coming after your children. Teach your children the Faith, but also teach them to question, analyze, and affirm it. Be active in their education at home, and do not take the school system for granted. Modern liberalism’s first point of attack is not conservative politics but Christian families. This isn’t a battle of taxes or health care; it is a debate over the existence of sin in the world and the need for a savior.

Right on, Caleb! Government (public) education is all about command and control. The biggest threat to those who have opted out of public education and are home schooling, attending a co-op, or using private education is the continual siren sound to return to the public system via on-line charters and academies. As enticing as the offers of free text books, free advice, and state certified diplomas may be, there is still a price tag for these freebees-the loss of academic and religious freedom.

As and economic liberal, one who thinks the “center” of the argument in the US is too far to the right (I confess am inclination to being a Christian Democrat with Social democrat leanings – two parties which have no existence in the US), I have to disagree with some things that you say:

1) People voted for Trump (right, center, moderate, conservative, indifferent, for sake of not voting for Clinton…) either because of or in spite of the rhetoric of the candidate. So, it was either important or unimportant to embrace the bigotry. Neither lets anyone on that side off the hook.

2) The people of the LGBTQ (more letters to come, I’m sure) are our legal, social and moral equals. Neither a citizen nor a Christian can claim otherwise. Lifting their sin over others is wrong and especially when we look in the pews and see people open about being divorced and remarried with living “former” spouses able to simply brush it off and not be judged. No difference in types of adultery but we make a lot of very public exceptions.

3) We are “lovers of all people”! So is Jesus. This is why Christ was crucified for the sins of ALL mankind.There is no enemy so loathsome that we, as Christians, do not stoop to serve unless we would place ourselves above Christ.

4) Praise God that Lutherans should never be fundamentalist moralists.

I can find every bit as much un-Christian, anti-Christian, Pharisaic moralizing, among conservatives and home school types. Moreso, in many cases. Where I live, home schooling is chosen by the real racists, the ones far north of the Mason-Dixon line, who fly traitorous flags. Also, the religious fringe, God’s chosen. That excludes us, by the way. We’re closet Catholics with our bread and wine, don’t you know? and the adages of the “free market”, hands off my stack privateers that despise community? That is not better. Far much more damage is being done to our children when we teach them to exclude, hate, avoid, or brag.

Sure, we teach our children. One of the things we teach them is to be faithful among others. To play, learn and dine with all sinners, be loving and inviting. There is no program that the schools can offer that will overcome the Holy Spirit. Fears of agendas are tools of Satan, not the agendas, themselves. Because the fears will marginalize and cause Christians to hide. To make their churches into fortresses. To make worry about tomorrow. What appeals more to the Adversary than the victors forgetting the triumph and cowering in foxholes? The mission field is in enemy territory. So, I agree remaining involved but, when you lose your argument, be ready to simply teach your children the truth. Don’t ever rely on practical education to be part of religious teaching and let your children know that school is only about practical knowledge, no matter who claims otherwise. That might mean standing up against the “Christian” moralists who want to synch the schools up with their heretical or syncretistic notions. Beware, there are many American Evangelical notions creeping into LCMS talk, these days, and I’ll include the “Creationism” that misses many of the core doctrines about our being God’s creatures.

Be loving, be honest, be just, serve. Above all, remember Christ died for all sins, even the ones we forget or overlook in our repentance, even the ones we pridefully cling to.

Excellent piece, Caleb. Everything I’ve been thinking as of late but packaged very eloquently. The public education system has been under attack long before you and I were born, but I think it’s fair to say that the enemy isn’t slipping so silently into the night to wage their attacks anymore. Even for my more “liberal Christians” friends, I’ve witnessed many fall hook, line and sinker for the rhetoric of the left which is riddled with logical fallacy.

Anyone reading this piece would be hard pressed to assume that Caleb is asserting that we should not love our fellow sinners. The fact of the matter is there is a healthy bit of deconstructionism going on in today’s postmodern culture which is pushed aggressively by the left, to the point that many Christians are using the “new” definitions of terms like love and hate. But I can assure you that when you hear these words used in any argument it doesn’t take long to determine a person’s worldview. When ‘love’ is simplified to only mean acceptance (“tolerance”) of sin or ‘hate’ can be used to disassociate repentance from forgiveness, you’re speaking with someone who is looking to the current culture to determine their linguistics.

With this flood of postmodern thought (I use ‘thought’ lightly) into our schools and churches, I’m sure antinomianism will abound long before we see the last days of confessional Lutheranism. I await the day when we bring real logic, grammar and rhetoric instruction back into our education system. Until then, come Lord Jesus!
