Epiphany: The End of Astrology

Interestingly, there has been a significant increase of people using astrology to guide their life. This isn’t surprising. It seems that people are also feeling more insecure and unstable in this crazy world. This might also account for the increase of grand conspiracy theories being thrown around. Someone must be pulling all the strings up in the stars or in a secret room. Everyone wants to crack the mystery of why things happen.

Does life seem like a mystery to you? Is God mysterious to you?

The Magi practiced astrology probably for the same reasons! They were looking up to crack the code of God and life. God answered. He gave them a sign in the stars that a new King had been born. Talk about a conspiracy! God’s star led them from looking up into the vast dark heavens to looking down at a poor ordinary looking boy in his mother’s arms.  God has come down. God in the flesh. God living in our dirty dusty world with dirty dusty confused and scared people. God has forever intertwined himself with humanity in Christ. God is no longer a mystery.

The mysterious creator and almighty God has revealed His heart and will to humanity. As John writes of Jesus, “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.” And what have we seen? We have seen God eat with sinners, have mercy on the outcast and those separated by disability, sin and even death. We have seen Him suffer by our hands yet without revenge. We have seen Him die in our place for our wrongdoings. We have seen Him rise again.

We don’t need to look up to the stars and wonder or blindly try to figure out what’s going on. We know God. We know His will. We know his attitude toward us. He gives forgiveness to sinners. He gives resurrection to the dead. He has claimed you as His own and will provide.

While we might feel like weak helpless creatures tossed back and forth in this current age, don’t look up to the stars or even your own good works and well laid plans. Look to Jesus. Listen to Jesus. Eat and drink Jesus. He is our star and sign that gives peace, hope, and life and will lead us home.
