No, the purpose of both is the salvation of humankind – except that ever since the fall, the Law has not been capable of leading us to salvation. It can only prepare us for the Gospel. Question:

In his first evening lecture Walther clarifies the two doctrines of Scripture as Law and Gospel. What do you think of his assertion that both Law and Gospel aim for man’s salvation only the Law has become impotent since the fall?
