Serving God and Country at St. Augustine Beach, Florida

It’s been a tough week for the Glover Family. We were forced to take seven days off of work and slum away at our favorite vacation spot – St. Augustine Beach, Florida. The weather is hardly ideal. It’s been cool, cloudy, and rainy for 3 days. My pale skin is not yet tan. I’m beginning to wonder if I’ll even put on my bathing-suit.

I know, I know, it’s tough being me. But in lieu of cards and flowers, I’m asking The Dean of Awesome to set up an emergency support fund for the yeoman’s work that my wife, children, and I are being forced to do in this little slice of heaven. Eating phenomenal seafood, drinking one too many cocktails, and spending an unhealthy amount of money at one of my favorite cigar shops on St. George Street, coupled with sharing an oceanfront condo with our best friends is what purgatory must be like. Seriously, if every reader of The Jagged Word would just contribute $1…

As The Emperor’s Chair suffers for God and Country this week, I am thrilled that The Cantankerous Critic is back in full form. His post from yesterday made its way into three different conversations before the wine ran out last night, all of which stirred the pot – and then some. Now, if only I would write another article flirting with crossing the Tiber…

Speaking of which, I’m a little confused why my post from last week seemed to get under several peoples skin. I confess that no matter my attractions to Rome, I remain firmly committed to the Lutheran Confessions and to my call as a Lutheran pastor. I say that justification is the central doctrine on which my faith rests, which is and always will trump everything else. Basically, I regurgitate much of which the reformers said. But still, this isn’t enough? Seriously? Justification by grace through faith doesn’t suffice? You Lutherans continue to amaze me…

Pray for us this week. It’s not going to be easy. But don’t worry too much, I think we’ll make it. Somehow. Someway.

And next week, with a bronzed body, a hurting head, and a set of lungs filled with smoke, I’ll be back at it, seeking to do what we at The Jagged Word do so well. Until then…
