Last week we enjoyed the classy Manhattan. This week we’ll move to something with less of a pedigree, but still a perennial crowd pleaser. Most folks peg the genesis of the Alabama Slammer to sometime in the early to mid 1970’s. It’s refreshing, tasty, and for folks who don’t appreciate the taste of straight alcohol, this drink is smooth and easy to drink.
- 1 oz Southern Comfort
- .5 oz Amaretto
- .5 oz Sloe Gin
- Orange Juice
Shake or mix the first three ingredients and pour over ice. Top with orange juice & serve. The orange juice should be 3-4 oz total in order to balance out the flavors. Don’t be surprised that there are many variations on this drink. Some include vodka. Some omit the orange juice in favor of lemon juice. But the above seems pretty representative of a broad array of voices. You’ll learn that Amaretto and orange juice is a really delicious combination included in a variety of cocktails, but enjoy it here for now Enjoy!
