Believe in conspiracies these days? It seems that, like alcoholism, some people are more prone to believing in conspiracies than others. I normally am not. I don’t believe people have the integrity nor the ability to keep secrets forever. I also don’t believe that people have the ability to remain loyal to one another forever. Therefore, the more people and the more secrets only makes the largest of conspiracies the most impossible.
That being said, the apparent organizational effort to remove Donald Trump seems unparalleled in American politics. But see, that was just a classic conspiracy spreading ploy. I gave you no historical examples demonstrating that there has never been a time quite like this. Politics, my friends, has always been nasty. And presidents have not always been polite little angels. John F. Kennedy is still dead, right? So get some perspective, my freaking out friends.
While I am not so sure about why big social media, corporations, and the Democratic party have been blatantly and unapologetically propagandizing against Trump and his “ism”, I do know there is one conspiracy you can count on.
God has been working on a conspiracy for a little while now. It’s a plan about you. And you have nothing to do with it. Actually, before you were even born, or before the universe was created for that matter, God began to conspire something against you – and for you.
I know, I know, that’s crazy! But hear me out. Paul definitely seems to be a conspiracy believer as he accidentally let the cat out of the bag in his letter to the Ephesians chapter one, writing:
“In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.”
If that doesn’t sound like a grand new world order sort of conspiracy, I don’t know what does. As I run my little life, making choices, regretting failures and enjoying successes, it’s all for naught? All the while God is working behind the scenes to my benefit? Even the death of His Son was not really a mistake, it was planned? God knew they would kill him, yet planned on it all along in order to save the very people who put him there in the first place?
Jesus lets it slip too when he tells Pilate, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.”
And sure enough, Jesus died and rose again from the dead. If that isn’t proof of a grand conspiracy, I don’t know what is. It’s happening!
Despite our political games and primitive scheming, despite the fumbling attempt by the powerful to manipulate the masses (if that’s even true), despite the little conspiracies of control we all try to pull off every day in our little fiefdoms, God’s conspiracy transcends all of that.
Let kings rise and fall. Let kingdoms come and go. Let the power brokers build and break everything. God sent His Son hidden as a baby in the middle of nowhere. God sent His Son as a carpenter’s boy who hung out with sinners and ate with the ordinary. God surprised the world by hanging on the cross for sinners. And surprise! He rose again. He has orchestrated the universe just to rescue you from yourself, sin and death!
Don’t worry about conspiracies. They all will show themselves anyways. And repent of your own! Believe in the great Conspirator who conspires for you!
