Is he the one? Is she the one? These are age old questions that some college students still ask today. This thinking is wrongheaded. Not just ill-advised, but fundamentally disastrous to a healthy relationship.

Americans eat like animals
“Whoever is slothful will not roast his game.” Proverbs 12:27
What you do around food betrays what you think about yourself and the world, your weltanschauung as the Germans like to say. As Solomon observed above, the fool cannot wait to roast his catch. He just digs right in…like an animal. Don’t be a fool.

Growing up we had some well abused “Choose Your Own Adventure” books. You roll stats by randomly choosing a number on the last page for certain abilities or something of the sort. Once that is done, you begin on the first page. From there things are off and running. You would get a few paragraphs and then you had to choose which path to take. It would tell you which page to turn to and start on the next branch of choices.

I am generally immune to the antics of Christian pietists. Their self-righteousness is more silly than offensive and their claim to represent some kind of authentic Christianity is as ridiculous as the theology the espouse. They are found throughout Christendom, from Roman Catholicism to your garden variety non-denominational community church, and yes, they even make their presence known in my own Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.

A little over 5 years ago, 33 Chilean miners had a mountain fall on them miles beneath the earth. Darkness. It literally could not be any darker. They could not see their hand in front of their face. The darkness was only disrupted by screams and shouts. After a while they managed to turn some lights on. Fortunately, they were all ok. But they were completely trapped. There was no possible way they would be able to escape by their own efforts and ingenuity. Can you imagine being in such a situation?

So another Rock ‘n’ Roll icon, if there ever was one, has died. David Bowie. He was more than a Rock ‘n’ Roll superstar. He was bigger than that. He was an entertainer on a Wagnerian scale. Even his name was the product of his desire to create and entertain.

For you Windows users who click on the blue “E” to access the internet, you’d better get ready. At the middle of this month, if you’re not using Internet Explorer 11 (the latest version), then you won’t receive technical support from Micro$oft for your browser anymore. What kind of impact does this have?
