Does God “Bless America”?
Sure He does. At least I think He does. I certainly pray He does.
But does God bless America more than other countries? Is there a special role in His divine plan for our nation?
I have no idea. No idea if God blesses our land – at least not in a unique way. No idea if our nation has some exceptional role for God’s people. At times it seems like both of these things are true, but I just don’t know.
I do not know if God blesses America. And to be honest, I don’t really care. As much as I love my country, my faith and my nation have little to do with one another. The former most assuredly does not depend upon the later.
So Happy Thanksgiving my fellow Americans. As you enjoy a day of family, food, and spirits tomorrow, rejoice and be thankful. Thankful for the freedoms this nation provides us. Thankful for a land that offers us so much bounty. Thankful for family. Thankful for The Jagged Word. Thankful for being redeemed by Christ. But don’t go all crazy on me, confusing things theological and things political, thinking that we Americans are uniquely blessed by God. We aren’t. Any blessings we have as Americans have nothing to do with our citizenship and everything to do with us being children of God.
This is most certainly true.
